ANGELONIA'S
GARDENING
ANGELONIA’S
I decided to share tips on how to care for flowers here. First up is the first flower that has found itself in our garden, Angelonia’s. I fell in love with these little flowers and the way they cascaded toward the floor when Nick and I were shopping for the olive tree in our living room.
CARE
Deadheading: No.
Sun: full sun or light shade.
USE
bedding border plant, pots, window boxes, cut flowers.
HARDINESS
zones 9-11, you can grow them as perennials.
PLANTING
Plant 2-3 weeks after the last expected frost. Space them 12 inches a part in cool climates and 18-24 inches apart in warm climates. When they are 6 inches tall, pinch out the tops of the main stems to encourage branching and bushiness.
SOIL
They prefer moist, well drained soil, but can withstand brief dry spells, especially if the soil is enriched with compost before planting.
FERTILIZER
Give plants a light feeding with 10-5-10 fertilizer once a month, but don’t overdo it.
MAINTENANCE
If they begin to sprawl midsummer, cut them back by about half their height.
