HOW-TO BEAUTIFY YOUR SPICE JARS
Our spice drawer is finally complete and it’s just as amazing as I was hoping it would be.
It’s these little finishing touches that really help make the every day beautiful. Spices are something we all use everyday, so why not make them something worth looking at?
WHY WE DID THIS
When Nick and I first moved into our new home we decided we wanted to keep our home as organized and clean as possible. In our last home, we had a cupboard dedicated to our spices but it was always such a pain to find the spice we were looking for, we often avoided using them all together.
When we moved into our new home, I spent some time on Pinterest looking for inspiration for how to organize our pantry and kitchen drawers/cabinets. I wanted our kitchen to function well, so it was easy to find things, things looked pretty and were located close to where you want to use them.
We decided to get organized enough that we had room for a spice drawer. We picked the drawer right next to our stove which luckily was a shallow and deep drawer, perfect for spices.
DESIGNING OUR SPICE DRAWER
At first I contemplated hiring someone to build us a drawer insert that would allow us to create a spice drawer but luckily stumbled upon some dividers at ikea that were super thin and cheap. They were perfect.
Next I needed to find the perfect bottles. I have always loved the beauty brand ‘herbivore’s’ packaging so I looked for clear glass, round bottles with white lids and then took to etsy to look for labels.
As a graphic designer I really contemplated making them myself and getting them printed but the reality was that unless I was making a few batches it was more expensive than just buying some off etsy.
WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO NEED:
$4.99 each
$32.99 for 24
$19.99 for a pack of 60

I already the largest pack so we would have everything we could need, I would rather do this than have to go back and order the whole set plus some again.
PUTTING THEM TOGETHER
Before purchasing the ikea spice rack inserts, measure your drawer and ensure they will actually fit. We had to use ours horizontally and then don’t quite reach the end of the drawer but it’s not the end of the world.
Clean out your new jars once they arrive and allow them to completely dry before transferring your spices into them. I gave them a few days.
Cut a piece of white paper to the same dimensions as your labels to get an idea of where you’ll want to place your labels.
Once you know where you want your labels placed, peel them off a lightly place them on your jars. Make sure they are straight and located where you want them before smoothing the sides down. You can adjust them before you completely smooth them down.
I laid my first jar with the label down next to each bottle I did after to ensure they were as close as possible to being in the same position, but if they’re a little off don’t worry. It’s really not noticeable if it’s just a bit off.
Once you’re all done, just enjoy.
