WRAPPING CHRISTAS GIFTS IN NEUTRAL COLOURS
Wrapping gifts is one of my favourite ways to get in the spirit of the holidays. It’s such a fun way to be creative. I always keep it simple when it comes to wrapping, I stick to neutral colours that go with my home and decor. Here’s how I approach wrapping in particular this year.
PAPER COLOURS
This year and most years I’ve stuck to these colours for holiday wrapping:
white paper
brown paper
I love the simplistic sophistication of it.
tip Keep in mind when wrapping with white paper that you’’re best to use a white box inside so that the colour or labels don’t show through.
Ribbon colours
The ribbon is where I pull in our colour palette which for us is muted neutrals mostly in matte finishes:
silver
white
caramel
green
gold
cream
CREATING VARIETY
Because I was working with such a restricted palette I switched up the size and texture of the ribbons and from there mixed and matched the colours on each package as much as possible. These are the materials I sought out:
jute twine
thin white yarn
chunky white yarn
neutral silky ribbons
neutral ribbed ribbons
thin lightly sparkly neutral coloured ribbon
ACCESSORIES
To jazz up each package I added little accessories whenever possible. I love doing this because it gives the gift a focal point and breaks up the package especially when it’s a rectangular box. It also is a great way to carry colour through your wrapping. For example by adding a touch of greenery to a package it pulls the green from the tree down toward the gifts. This is what I used:
greenery
matte silver bells
small silver ornaments
gold glitter branches, trimmed down
ATMOSPHERE
I like to set the mood for wrapping gifts, I usually throw on a cheesy holiday movie that I know Nick wouldn’t want to watch or call my mom or nana to have a chat while wrapping.
WHERE TO SHOP
I purchased our paper at the dollar store and michael’s, I did the same for our ribbons.
GIFTS FROM SANTA
Santa won’t be visiting our house this year as there are no littles around and we told him to prioritize those homes. However, If Santa were to toss a few presents down our chimney this year I would request he wrap them in plain red wrapping paper with a white velvet ribbon or some chunky white yarn.
White or brown paper with red velvet or dark green velvet ribbon would be pretty nice too.
I hope this helps you plan your wrapping. I had so much fun with it this year and I hope you do too.
