HOW TO KNOW IF A WEDDING PLANNER IS RIGHT FOR YOU
Do you need a planner and how do you know which one is right for you? This is one of the main questions I get asked by new brides. Honestly, I remember wondering that myself when Nick and I first talked seriously about getting engaged.
As you already know, Nick and I had a destination wedding, so using a wedding planner for us was a huge. She was so valuable in so many ways! With that said, some couples still see benefits using a day of coordinator. So if a planner isn’t within budget for you, don’t stress, you’ll be okay.
I don’t think there is a clear cut right or wrong answer. I think you need to evaluate what’s right for you.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself to determine what is right for you:
Is it a destination wedding?
If you’re having a destination wedding a planner that knows that area can be extremely valuable. They’ll be familiar with the best vendors and can take care of site visits that you aren’t able to attend.
If the location you’re getting married at provides this service, than lucky you!
Consult your budget:
Do you have room in your budget to hire a planner? They can be quite expensive so ensure that you aren’t spending the majority of your budget on one.
Make sure that you’re budget fits within the planner’s budget. Most planners have a minimum cost to their weddings.
Make sure to reach out to a number of planners to see which one can fit into your budget. Sometimes their our newbies on the block that are incredibly talented but haven’t gotten the chance to showcase what they can do yet.
If it’s still over budget for you, a day of coordinator could be a good way to go. My brother and sister-in-law used one and it still helped relieve some stress on the big day.
If you have room to hire a planner and are still on a tighter budget, they can help you determine where your money is best spent as well as help you navigate the right vendors for you based on your budget.
What are your expectations of your planner?
Get clear on expectations. Each planner is unique and specializes in different types of weddings so ensure the one you’re hiring is the one that is right for you and doesn’t come with a plethora of hidden costs.

Do you get along?
You are going to be going back and forth with this person a lot so make sure that you get a long and that your vision for the day is the same. This will really help you bring out the best in each other. I loved how collaborative and inventive my planner Nicole was. I relied on her and my parents opinion for pretty much every decision so trusting her taste was incredibly important for me.
How much time do you have to devote to planning?
If you work a full time job and so does your partner, a planner could be incredibly valuable to you, especially if you’re envisioning a more elaborate event.
Even with a planner, a wedding can be a lot of work but they can alleviate a lot of the more complicated aspects of planning, which can be a huge time and stress saver.
If you know what you want, do you need a planner?
If you’re planning a more elaborate event, a planner can be a tremendous help. I had a really clear vision for what I wanted and my planner helped me bring that to life and expand my vision with amazing ideas. She turned our day into so much more than I could have imagined.
my experience with my planner:
I had an amazing experience with our planner. I saw her account on instagram and fell in love with the wedding’s she created. I loved her vision and style and knew it fit exactly with my vision for our day. We met her and I fell in love with her instantly, she so clearly knew what she was doing, was efficient, friendly and creative.
She was an amazing partner through the entire experience and was able to prepare for everything that came our way as she had so much experience with anything that could go wrong on the day or leading up to it. For me, she was the reason the day was what it was and the reason the experience of planning was so much fun.
