BEHIND THE SCENES OF OUR WEDDING SET UP
I am so happy to have finally found myself in the right space to share these beautiful behind-the-scenes photos with you and some stories to go along with them.
These past few months since the wedding have been a time for us to unwind after a whirlwind couple of years.
Planning a wedding (even with a planner) is a huge undertaking. On top of that my parents were building their dream home which I actively wanted to participate in as much as possible, having always loved interior design. As if that wasn’t enough I had decided to have a custom dress made for my rehearsal dinner and to document the making of it, all the while working on the biggest project I had ever been a part of at my day job and taking acting classes again. It was the most creatively fulfilling time in my life, but I was left exhausted after it all and only now is it all finally sinking in.
For any of you out there planning a wedding or a major event for yourself or a friend my advice to you; find vendors who love what they do. We were so lucky in having a team of people who not only were masters in their craft but that truly love what they do. On top of that, they all love working together. How cool right?
As many of you know, our original plan for our wedding ceremony was to have a tree garland running up a beautiful Linden Tree situated in the back garden of the heritage home where we were getting married, however due to unfortunate weather we had to change our plans last minute. Luckily, our amazing planner, Nicole(Created Lovely), our florist, Melinda (A New Leaf Floral) and I chatted on the phone and came up with a new plan. To tent the ceremony with the same style of tent we we would be using for the reception (a tidewater tent).
We had to commit to the tent financially a few days before to have it on hold for us no matter what the weather and had to decide if we should install it or risk it the morning before our wedding because those types of tents take so long to install. After some emotional conversations we decided we couldn’t risk it and decided to install the tent.
I would be lying if I said I wasn’t emotional about the decision but because I had picked such talented people I was able to let it go and trust them. I knew they would make it beautiful and I was excited about our new plan. We had decided to create either an arbor of flowers that would be positioned at the end of the tent or to have flowers actually growing up the poles at one end of the tent.
After giving myself a moment to breathe and adjust to the new vision for our ceremony I decided to go on instagram for some ‘scroll therapy.’ Sure enough I came across a new instagram story from our florist, Melinda who had no joke, climbed up a tree in her backyard and was actively sawing off a branch to use for our new ceremony arbor. My jaw dropped and everything changed in that moment, I was instantly comforted by the kindness of the people I had surrounded myself with. In that moment everything was okay, because of the amazing people around me who would literally climb a tree to make our new plan work.
The morning of our wedding, I awoke to a severe thunderstorm and flash flood warning. I went to my parents room, put my head against the wall of their patio door (not wanting to damage the new wall paint) and cried. I asked if we could move it to Sunday, I asked if we could cancel it, I asked if we could just have immediate family in our living room and I was already pulling inspiration from Miley Cyrus’s living room wedding to Liam Hemsworth. I had it all planned.
My parents and my planner Nicole told me to calm down and that it was now in their hands. I went to my room and my maid of honor Emma played a soundtrack of calming music for me while I lay on the floor of our bedroom with tears streaming down my face. In my mind this whole day was going to be a disaster. I had visions of our beautifully planned reception tent being flooded, of the menus our calligrapher Maurelle (Hello Maurelle) had spent days making would all be soaking wet and ruined. But what upset me the most was how much my parents and all of the incredible artists had done to make this day real and it was all going to distroyed.
I was a mess, I hid away in the bathroom and laid on the floor crying while the girls got their hair and make up done. It wasn’t until Melinda arrived at our house with our bouquets that I finally calmed down. The flowers were just like I had envisioned them, only even more beautiful. It was the first thing I had dreamt of and worked so hard on that had actually materialized.
After that, Nicole began sending me pictures of all the lovely people pictured throughout these photographs setting up our tent and the pictures did the same. These talented people brought our vision to life and in doing so brought me back into the present.
On top of all of that the amazingly kind and generous Erin Ainsley (Bowie Mae) who is in the process of pressing my wedding bouquet took all of these photos for us to have of our wedding day being set up. These images are so special to me because of everything my amazing team did to make our day what it was and I am so grateful to have a visual of it all.
At the end of the day it felt a bit like we had created something so beautiful that Mother Nature invited herself and at first she thought she’d show up a as a storm but instead decided to show up through the plethora of snails we found hiding in our florals and the beautiful butterflies that circled us throughout our ceremony.
