AN EASY AND ELEGANT CHRISTMAS MORNING BREAKFAST
This year I have a feeling a lot of us are going to be hosting Christmas for our immediate family that maybe have never done so before. I hosted Christmas for my family last year which was a first for me. My mom always does such a beautiful job, she makes a beautiful breakfast, an incredible dinner and the house is dressed to the nine’s so the bar was set very high for me as I’m sure it as been for most of you as well.
The dinner is overwhelming enough for me so I am sharing how to make a breakfast/brunch that everyone will enjoy, that will look beautiful but that won’t have you stress sweating through your new silk pyjamas.
on the menu
Here are some ideas that are easy, special and will look beautiful on your table:
Pick up some baked goods from your favourite local cafe’s and bakeries the day/week before:
croissants and pastries
almond croissants, a favourite of mine if you want something more decadent.
chocolate croissants
plain croissants, we opted for this option last year. We picked up our favourite plain croissants from urban fare the day before. They’re so good we save them for special occasions.
scones, my personal fav pictured above, the orange and cranberry scone from a cafe here in Langley.
Bread
pick up a special loaf of bread from your favourite bakery, we love the double baked Swiss bread from Ralph’s. It is delicious with jam on top or served as avocado toast. click here for my recipe.
Jam
pick up some locally made jam from your fav local farmers market for a special treat.
Easily prepped dishes on the morning of/the day before:
The goal is to have a delicious breakfast that doesn’t dirty too many dishes or create too much mess. Here are some dishes that will look beautiful, feel special and that don’t make too much mess.
yogurt parfait,
you know how I love a fancy yogurt parfait in a champagne glass, it would be perfect for a holiday breakfast at home. Top it with some of your favourite granola and a drizzle of honey or my mom’s special recipe she picked up in Italy, smashed pistachios and honey.
fruit platter
make up a platter or bowl of your favourite berries and fruit the night before, cover with cling wrap and leave in the fridge overnight. I love to load up a berry platter with blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries.
Cheese board
put out some of your favourite cheese like aged cheddar, brie, Boursin that can be enjoyed with your plain croissants.
If your ambitious and want to cook:
scrambled eggs are easy to make in large batches. You can check out my favourite recipe here.
hashbrowns, you can cook them from frozen or pre-cook some the day before and heat them up in a pan the morning of christmas. You could also make our favourite roasted potatoes ahead of time and re-heat them in the oven on the morning of, while the eggs are cooking.
if you’ve got a vegetarian in the house and want to cook some sausage or bacon, we recommend picking up these or these. Nick loves them both. It’s an easy way to accommodate a vegetarian by just having a veggie protein option for them.
To drink
Here are some ideas to get you started:
orange juice
coffee
decaf coffee (for anyone with an aversion to caffeine, yes those people do exist).
make sure to have almond, soy or oat milk on hand if you’ve got a vegetarian or vegan coming that doesn’t drink milk.
sparkling water
cold tap water
mimosas?
a variety of teas
